ATGJSY: Chapter 26
To be on the safe side, for the next few days, Shen Yi instructed Rong Qian to stay home and not to step outside, not even a single step.
No matter who knocks on the door, it absolutely must not be opened!
Shen Yi planned to observe for a few days to confirm if there were any developments on Shen Chi's side. After observing, he found that Meng Yuxin hadn't come knocking again these days.
It seemed like her previous appearance was just an accident.
However, Shen Yi didn't relax because of this. He still advised Rong Qian not to go out as much as possible. This once again left Rong Qian feeling miserable. She hadn't expected to endure these days of hiding and waiting again.
Rong Qian, feeling bored to death at home, expressed her deep dissatisfaction. A hero with no chance to show her prowess; this was one of life's major regrets. A talented individual like her was being wasted away, spending her days idly, what a waste!
"Ah~ So boring! Isn't there anything fun to entertain me?" Rong Qian lay flat on the floor in a spread-eagle position, staring at the ceiling above, wailing in utter boredom.
Just then, Rong Qian suddenly heard some commotion outside the door! She perked up her ears and listened carefully; there were footsteps, and not just one person.
The voices outside the door were very soft, sneaky, clearly with malicious intent. As expected, after waiting for a while, Rong Qian heard the sound of the lock being tampered with.
Rong Qian's eyes instantly lit up, and she couldn't contain her joy. The entertainment she desired came knocking at her door!
Outside the door were three Americans, one of them was chubby, wearing a baseball cap and a loose basketball jersey. At the moment, he was trying to force the door open, while the other two were leaner, responsible for lookout. They were teenagers, probably still students.
All three of them had injuries, some had bandages on their faces, some had bandages on their arms. It was evident that they had either been in a fight or had been beaten up.
"Done yet?" One of the skinny boys asked impatiently.
The chubby one, sweating profusely from nervousness, flushed in annoyance, "Why are you rushing me? Don't disturb!"
"What are you afraid of? There's nobody inside anyway," the other tall, thin white guy said disdainfully.
The chubby guy glared at them and let go, "You're so capable, why don't you do it?"
The other two, who couldn't tamper with locks, touched their noses and didn't say anything more.
The chubby guy continued tampering with the lock while instructing them, "Once we get in, smash everything, but be quiet, don't let the landlord downstairs find out."
The two nodded, indicating that they understood.
Then, there was a click, and the lock was picked.
The group exchanged glances, each with a look of joy. The chubby guy straightened up, raised his head high, feeling quite proud.
The chubby guy pushed the door open triumphantly, but the next moment, he was so scared that he shrank back several steps!
There was someone inside the house!
"You guys are too slow at picking locks. Want me to teach you? I guarantee it won't take a few seconds."
Rong Qian had already moved a chair to the entrance and was waiting there. At the moment, she was sitting with her legs crossed, leisurely swinging them. She hugged her arms, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips. There was also a baseball bat by her feet, which she picked up, testing its weight. She was familiar with its feel.
The three outside were shocked. When they recognized Rong Qian's face, their shock turned into fright!
"Oh, old acquaintances!" Rong Qian had an excellent memory, especially when it came to remembering faces. She could recognize these kids as the ones she had encountered in the alley when she traveled back in time.
The three had witnessed Rong Qian's prowess before, and now they were ready to bolt!
"Hold it! Did I say you could leave?" Rong Qian ordered, and the three outside instantly froze in place.
Rong Qian stood up, walked up to them, towering over them due to her height advantage. She looked down at them, questioning, "Who sent you?"
The three pushed each other, none willing to speak. Impatient, Rong Qian glared at the chubby guy, "You, speak up!"
Unable to evade, the chubby guy could only confess, "Joseph."
The Joseph mentioned by the chubby guy was their leader, the blond man who had whistled at Rong Qian that day.
"Why did he make you do this?" Rong Qian continued interrogating.
The chubby guy said, "Because of Thomas. Thomas is good buddies with our leader, Joseph."
"So, you mean, Shen Yi offended this Thomas?" Rong Qian speculated.
The chubby guy nodded vigorously, "Yes, that's right!"
"You guys came here to smash things, right? Then come on in and smash away." Rong Qian generously made way for them.
The group looked at each other, unable to decipher Rong Qian's intentions for a moment.
"If you don't smash anything, it'll be hard to explain when you go back. Your boss will scold you, won't he?" Rong Qian kindly reminded them.
The group was on edge, feeling like there was a catch, but still stumbled into the trap. One of the short, skinny guys even picked up a water glass and was about to smash it on the floor, then he heard Rong Qian casually utter, "You dare to smash things, I'll smash you."
The skinny guy was so frightened that he shook, causing the glass to fall. In a fluster, he quickly caught it.
"What, what do you want?" The chubby guy couldn't bear Rong Qian's psychological pressure and surrendered with a mournful face.
Rong Qian looked at them coldly, rolled her eyes, and muttered in Chinese under her breath, "Idiots!"
"Do you understand the concept of adaptability and seizing opportunities?" Rong Qian said impatiently.
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw them shaking their heads like tambourines. Rong Qian massaged her temples in frustration; she was foolish too. Chinese culture was profound and extensive, how could these foreigners understand?
Rong Qian didn't bother to beat around the bush with them anymore. She said directly, "Remember this, when you go back, say you completed your mission. Don't mention seeing me, pretend I don't exist."
"If I find out that you've mentioned me—" she tapped her shoulder with the baseball bat, sneering coldly, "I'll break your legs!"
A few minutes later.
Rong Qian opened the curtains and watched as the group fled in disarray. She shook her head in disappointment. It was boring; at least a bit of resistance would have given her a chance to warm up.
At that moment, she suddenly noticed someone downstairs looking up at her. Quick as lightning, Rong Qian pulled the curtains shut!
After hiding, Rong Qian revealed a strange expression. The person who had just looked up at her from below, why did it feel like she had seen them somewhere before?
Lin Feng had hurriedly rushed over to No. 17, St. Law Street after hearing some news, expecting to be late, but unexpectedly witnessed Joseph's henchmen rushing out of the building in a panic.
Lin Feng felt puzzled. He looked up and saw a woman standing behind the window of Shen Yi's house!
Lin Feng was bewildered. Didn't Shen Yi live alone? How could there be a woman in his house?
At 11 p.m., Shen Yi was riding his bike home when he was intercepted once again by someone.
His backseat was grabbed tightly again, and Shen Yi was forced to stop his bicycle. He didn't look pleased, not even glancing at the person. "Lin Feng, I'll say this once, let go."
Lin Feng didn't joke around with him as usual. Instead, he walked up to him seriously and asked, "Shen Yi, do you live alone?"
"And if I don't?"
"If you live alone, then who is the woman?" Lin Feng's expression was grave, suggesting that this matter was serious.
There was a glint of something in Shen Yi's eyes, but he remained composed on the surface. "What woman?"
"Don't tell me you're clueless? I saw it with my own eyes!"
Shen Yi remained unperturbed and calmly asked, "Where did you see this?"
"This afternoon, I heard that Joseph sent people to cause trouble at your place, so I rushed over immediately. I saw those guys rushing out of the apartment in a panic, and then, I saw a woman behind the window of your house!" Lin Feng spoke solemnly, his serious expression indicating that he wasn't joking.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Shen Yi heard this, his expression changed, and he rode away on his bike!
"Hey! I haven't finished speaking!"
Seeing Shen Yi's panicked expression and hurried departure, Lin Feng couldn't catch up to him in time. Shen Yi had already ridden far away.
"This kid, could he really be hiding a woman in his house?" Lin Feng muttered to himself, realizing that Shen Yi had been rushing home every night lately. Suddenly, he realized that this possibility was quite high!
Lin Feng was about to go after him to find out when a black man came running over, panting heavily, and stopped him in his tracks with his poor Chinese, "Lin Feng! Wait!"
Turning around, Lin Feng saw his good buddy Jesse, "Why are you in such a hurry? What's going on?"
Jesse had run all the way, panting heavily. He leaned on his knees, gasping for breath, "Thomas found out that we've helped Shen Yi multiple times. He beat our people up, and they've all been taken to the hospital. They're badly injured and can't afford medical expenses. The situation is very troublesome now. Hurry up and take a look!"
"Damn it!" Lin Feng cursed, so infuriated that he pushed Jesse aside and ran off!
Jesse was sweating profusely, panting heavily, struggling to catch his breath. "Lin, Lin Feng, wait for me..."
