ATGJSY: Chapter 38
When Meng Yuxin learned early in the morning that Shen Yi was going back to the Shen family, her expression turned sour.
She had put in so much effort to drive him away in the first place, only for him to return now. Did that mean all her efforts were in vain?
Last time, when she personally went to find Shen Yi, after the misunderstanding, she had sent someone to investigate. Strangely, the address was correct— No. 17, St. Law Street, Apartment 302.
But she refused to run after him again, no matter what. After honestly telling Shen Chi about it, he told her not to bother.
At that time, she thought he didn't want this son to come back again, so she was happy for a few days.
But little did she know, Shen Yi would turn the tables!
Now, while Shen Chi was out, Meng Yuxin planned to "mock" Shen Yi thoroughly. It would be best if she could force him away before Shen Chi returned!
"Why are you so surprised?"
As Shen Yi's car left, Rong Qian turned around to see Chen Shiyi and Lu Xuan with expressions of astonishment, which she found somewhat amusing.
Lu Xuan cleared his throat and asked Rong Qian, "Did you already know he wasn't an ordinary person?"
"What's the big deal?" Rong Qian didn't think it was worth discussing.
Shaking his head, Lu Xuan said, "Nothing, it's just a bit surprising. So Shen Yi isn't like we thought. He's not short of money; he's just experiencing life."
Hearing this, Rong Qian frowned slightly, feeling displeased. "Do you think he moved out of his family's home to live independently just to experience life?"
"Isn't that possible?" Lu Xuan didn't have any other thoughts.
Rong Qian chuckled self-deprecatingly, her eyes showing a hint of coldness. "He 'escaped.'"
Chen Shiyi and Lu Xuan exchanged a glance. Escaped? What did she mean?
Although Rong Qian hadn't told them much about Shen Yi's past, from her simple words, both Chen Shiyi and Lu Xuan could sense that Shen Yi hadn't had it easy in that household.
He had been, to put it mildly, tortured.
It was only then that the two realized that Shen Yi had lived under such oppression before. If it were them, they would want to escape too.
Rong Qian's words gave them a whole new understanding of Shen Yi. Instead of feeling alienated due to differences in status and background, they felt even closer to him.
As Rong Qian spoke, she realized she might not stay for long. She looked at Chen Shiyi and Lu Xuan and decided to instruct them on some matters. "I might be leaving in a few days. I want to trouble you both to pay more attention to Shen Yi, especially what happens to him in the future. It's very important!"
Rong Qian didn't know if this counted as changing history, but for now, it was the only way.
As long as they knew what happened to Shen Yi in the future, when she returned after crossing over, Rong Qian could find out from them. Maybe even who attacked her.
However, when Chen Shiyi and Lu Xuan heard this, their first reaction was to ask where she was going. Rong Qian could only make an excuse about returning to her own country. Although they were reluctant to see her leave, they knew they couldn't stop her.
Lu Xuan asked, "Does Shen Yi know?"
"He doesn't know yet. And don't tell him. I'll tell him when it's time to leave."
Lu Xuan nodded in understanding.
Of course, this wasn't the focus for Rong Qian. She earnestly instructed them, "Pay close attention to what happens to Shen Yi in the future, and the more details, the better. Like who his enemies are, who opposes him, and, most importantly!"
Rong Qian took a deep breath and emphasized, "In 1988, when Shen Yi was 32 years old, what happened to him? Why did he disappear at sea?"
"Rong Qian, what are you talking about?" Lu Xuan was bewildered. Why did it seem more absurd the more she spoke?
Rong Qian wasn't joking with them. She remained serious throughout. "It's 1972 now. Forty-eight years later, I will come find you and ask what happened to Shen Yi all those years ago. By then, you must tell me all the details."
Forty-eight years later? By then, they'd all be old folks, right?
As Rong Qian finished speaking, she sat down, wrote a date and address on a piece of paper, put it in an envelope, and handed it to Lu Xuan.
"This envelope contains a piece of paper. You must keep it safe, or better yet, remember it. I'm afraid you might forget, so I wrote it down."
Lu Xuan took it, feeling a little dizzy suddenly, as if he had been filled with a lot of information all at once. He asked Rong Qian, "What did you write?"
Rong Qian didn't hide anything. "I wrote down the time when I'll come find you and the address where you'll be."
"How do you know where we'll be so many years later?" Lu Xuan asked instinctively, feeling a strange sensation, but he couldn't pinpoint exactly what was odd.
Rong Qian didn't allow him to ask further. "Anyway, I just know. Don't ask."
Lu Xuan and Chen Shiyi looked at each other, holding the envelope, lost in thought.
"I'm not joking with you," Rong Qian said, meeting their eyes directly. She was afraid they wouldn't take it seriously or would forget, so her expression was unusually solemn.
"This matter is very serious, not only affecting Shen Yi's life but also my safety. So, you must remember everything that happens to Shen Yi in the next decade!"
In the car, Shen Yi, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly opened them wide.
"Young Master, is something wrong?" Fu Bozhong had been watching him attentively and quickly asked with concern.
Shen Yi shook his head. "Nothing." It was just that he suddenly felt very uncomfortable inside.
Looking out of the car window at the familiar streets, he knew he was getting closer to that estate.
Fu Bozhong thought he was upset and patted his shoulder, comforting him, "Young Master, even if you don't come back voluntarily, Master will bring you back."
Shen Yi remained silent.
Fu Bozhong knew he didn't want to hear these things, so he changed the subject. "Has Miss Rong been here long?"
"Not long, less than a month." Indeed, whenever Rong Qian was mentioned, Shen Yi became more talkative.
Fu Bozhong chuckled. "She hasn't changed a bit. It's really amazing."
"When I'm in my eighties or nineties, she'll still look the same. She won't change."
Fu Bozhong paused. He turned to look at him and saw Shen Yi lower his eyelids, hiding the faint glimmer of disappointment in his eyes.
Fu Bozhong suddenly realized that he seemed to have said something wrong again...
Meng Yuxin had been sitting in the living room all along. Seeing Shen Yi return, she put on a pretense of joy and warmly greeted him.
Shen Yi remained cold-faced throughout, silent. Whenever Meng Yuxin tried to approach him, he avoided her.
Meng Yuxin didn't mind. After all, all this drama was for others to see.
After sending away the servants and bodyguards, Meng Yuxin finally assumed the posture of a hostess and disdainfully said to Shen Yi, "You left so eloquently back then. Why are you back now? Let me guess, you must be out of money, right?"
"Madam, please be careful." Fu Bozhong reminded her with a stern face.
Meng Yuxin became displeased. "Since when did it become your place to interrupt when the master speaks?"
Fu Bozhong fell silent. Meng Yuxin was smug, but when she turned her head, she met Shen Yi's eyes, which mirrored the same anger Shen Chi showed when he was furious. Meng Yuxin was so frightened that she dared not make a move.
How could this brat look so much like his father?
"Mommy, has big brother come back?"
At that moment, a young boy walked down from upstairs. He was wearing a clean little suit and leather shoes, but his dark skin made him look like he had come from the countryside, stealing clothes from wealthy people to wear.
He bounced around as he walked, full of energy.
"Little Ran, why did you wake up so early today? Come here, let Mommy hug you."
Seeing her precious son awake, Meng Yuxin waved for him to come over, ignoring his previous statement.
As Shen Fengran walked to Meng Yuxin's side, his eyes remained fixed on Shen Yi. He had thought since the day he arrived that this big brother looked very handsome.
Meng Yuxin hugged her child, and when she looked up at Shen Yi again, she felt a pang of jealousy.
Although the two children were a few years apart, standing together made their differences stark. Her son didn't look as good as Shen Yi, which had always been a sore point for Meng Yuxin.
Her son was left to his own devices, playing with a bunch of unwanted kids in the rubbish all day, lacking any noble demeanor.
Previously, she hadn't noticed, but now the comparison made her son look particularly unworthy!
